BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man initially charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy through a car seat has been indicted on a manslaughter charge.
The Plymouth district attorney's office says 30-year-old Tony Semedo-Cardoso, of Brockton, was indicted Wednesday in the Sept. 14 shooting of Alberto Rui Tavares.
Prosecutors say Semedo-Cardoso fired a single shot from the back of Alberto's brother's car as they rode in Brockton, and the bullet went through the seat and struck the teen. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Semedo-Cardoso, who fled after the shooting, has been held without bail since pleading not guilty in district court. His Superior Court arraignment has not been scheduled.
His court-appointed attorney could not be reached.
