Resolved Question: How should I end the first chapter of my novel?

3 July 2010, 9:00 pm

The first chapter is about 3 pages long so far and I think I'm just about ready to end it, but I'm not sure how in a way that wouldn't give too much away and/or sound corny. Basically in the first chapter the protagonist is with her friends on the bus, on the way to a field trip to Plymouth, MA. They're going to be staying at a haunted hotel so they're talking about it a bit. But basically the first chapter is an introduction to the characters and a little of the plot. The protagonist keeps having visions of death in the first chapter but doesn't know why. This is the last sentence I wrote: I didn't know what was happening, but I was determined to find out why. Is that a good cliffhanger or no? I don't want to end it too dramatic by saying "I knew we were going to die.." or something. Help? Any suggestions? .P.S. I'm not asking you to write it for me. Thanks. :D... Read More »
